SHORT STATEMENT OF ARTWORK

Nature, mysterious nature, is the greatest inspiration for wonderful philosophy and art in human
history. When we perceive beauty of waves, power of tides, tranquility in a remote valley; when we
communicate with our nature and enter the state of empathy; we sense freezing moments; we sense
our inner existence, and we are back to our common original memory that we, human beings, can
live harmoniously with the great nature. We are part of nature. It is the great inner space shared by
poets, musicians and artists that enlightens our spiritual existence. Therefore, when we appreciate
Chopin’s Nocturne, the scales and tones can be transformed into moving colors and cursive lines.
When we read Li Sao (Note 1), the spirit can be described with abstract waves. The transformation
among music, poetry, and visual art consolidates elements of art, and we can finally sense music and
poetry on a canvas.

Kandinsky did very extensive discussion regarding color and forms to form “Composition” and
“Improvisation”  to purposefully set the human soul vibrating by pressing this or that key just as
of a piano. Here, let us apply the concept of “solid and void” from architecture, silence moments
from music, void area in classical Chinese art. We may add “void space” to abstract oil painting.
As in “Mind”, the white area is pure canvas, it symbolize the great humility of mind to perceive mystery
of great nature. The void space covers almost all over the canvas and becomes the main element is
the artwork and in the form of extension to other colored areas. This is a statement that “void” can
be the main character in an abstract art, as in the art of spatial design. As in “Endless Sea”, the white
area is also pure canvas without oil. The solid and void composition becomes endless conversation as
endless waves in our life of gains and loss. The harmony of solid and void composition  can be reached
only if the oil paint is extremely thin. This is the breakthrough of my latest  oil artwork.

Van Gogh wrote: “Life is probably round.” Yes, life is beautiful, and round, when we consolidate all
our precious perception, intuition, wisdom, music, poetry,…, on a piece of canvas, as trace of life,  
existing with all our heart. The two dimensional art can accommodate the highest space, and unlimited
freedom.

(Note 1) From Wikipedia, Li Sao is one of the most famous poems in Chinese history.The name is
often translated as The Lament, but is also known as On Encountering Trouble. Attributed to Qu
Yuan (ca. 340 BC - ca. 278 BC) by Sima Qian, it is a poem of search, sorrow and disillusionment of
an exiled minister of state. It is part of the collection known as Chu Ci.)

自然,神秘的自然,是人類歷史中哲學與藝術經典之偉大靈感泉源。當我
們體驗波浪的美感,潮湧的力量,遙遠山谷中的寧靜,當我們與自然對話
,並且進入一種神入之狀態,我們感覺時空的凝結,發覺內在之存在,回
歸我們共有的原始記憶- 我們可以和大自然和諧相處,我們是自然的部分
。就是這個 - 詩人,音樂家,藝術家,共同分享的偉大內部空間,照亮
了我們精神層面的存在。所以,當我們欣賞蕭邦的夜曲,可以轉換音階與
音律為流動的色彩與滑動的线條。當我們讀離騷,可以抽象的翻浪表現其
精神描寫。音樂,詩,視覺藝術間之轉型可以精要藝術元素,而我們終於
可以在一張畫布上感受音樂與詩。

康定斯基曾經深入描寫色彩與造型形成"構圖"或者"即興"有意地震動靈魂
如同敲擊琴鍵。在此,藉諸建築學的實虛概念,音樂的休止符,中國古典
繪畫的留白,我們可以將虛空間帶入油彩抽象,補充色彩與造型之構成。
如同在畫作"心智",留白象徵虛懷若谷方可領悟大自然之神秘。留白佔據
幾乎整個帆布,而成為最主要的元素,並以延伸型式伸向色彩區塊。所以
,如同在空間藝術,"空"也可以在抽象藝術中成為主角。在"無盡的海",
白色部分亦係沒有油彩的留白。這種實虛的構成,無止境的對話,如同得
失人生無止境的浪潮。虛實的構成在油彩中,必須超薄才能完成諧調的畫
面。這是我近期油彩繪畫的突破。

梵谷曾經寫下"也許人生是圓的。" 是的,人生是美麗的,圓的。當我們
凝結感知,直覺,智慧,音樂,詩,,,在一張畫布上,完成生命的痕跡
,我們用心的存在。二度空間的繪畫可以容納最高度的空間,無限的自由。

1) the month;
2) especially space in a year;
3) the shine of the painting (see, for example - Paul, Hermant, Jehanne-Quin Limburg,
Tres riches heures du duc Berry, (1415-1416), the month May);
4) the symbol "May" - it's the blooming.
